Make Music New York

Hey bloggers, if you happen to be in the neighborhood, I will be performing my No Police State song for anyone who shows up at the Green Oasis Garden, 8th Street between Ave C and D in New Yorks East Village, Saturday June 21st from 1pm-2pm as part of this years 2nd annual Make Music New York musical celebration. And in case you haven’t done so yet, you can sign up at Make Music New York to be a participating artist.

Make Music New York is a new live, free musical celebration across the city that takes place each June 21—the longest day of the year.

On that day, public space throughout the five boroughs—sidewalks, parks, community gardens, and more—become impromptu musical stages, dance floors, and social meeting points. Thousands of amateur musicians, in every genre, perform on sidewalks for the biggest crowds of their lives. Professional musicians perform for new audiences, who come out from under their headphones to hear unfamiliar groups risk-free. And everyone is invited to sing along and enjoy the first day of summer.

And in other thoughts, I received this email from Galinsky who does those really cool Manhattan Monologue Slams. And I thought this email looks interesting to repost:

Speak Out through New York Film Academy Tomorrow

Calling all friends, collegues and actors who have something to say

Join us in Union Square Park and express yourself in the New York Film Academy’s “I’m Mad As Hell…” video series

Tomorrow Tuesday April 29th, 10am-5pm rain or shine
Shooting in the South End of Union Square Park, under the Red NYFA Tent

Upset with something? Perhaps a recent court verdict? Perhaps the election process? Perhaps our pop culture has you thinking?

Speak out, comment and sound off on any subject you like. We want 30 seconds to one minute of your opinion/performance on anything from current news events, to the election, to your thoughts about the newest movie premieres, sporting events, cultural happenings, whatever! We will shoot and post it on You Tube for the world to see and hear you.

If you have something to say about the latest police acquitted verdict, We are going to capture and present all related materials and set up a special area on YouTube

Peace on earth and goodwill to all mankind. And what does this have to do with a No Police State?

Recent gigs have also featured guest appearances by hometown heroes Vernon Reid and Maya Azucena alongside the ever-evolving Burnt Sugar. At Drom the band will be presenting material being prepped for their next studio album which shall include an insane cover of Joni Mitchell’s .”All I Want” featuring the siren Lisala , a madcap meringue variation on Living Colour’s “Love Rears Its Ugly Head” and a ree-dunk-u-lous version of Fishbone’s ‘Black Flowers’ featuring Strong Island’s own Abby Dobson. An Outsider Artist

Hey Bloggers, I was reading this weeks edition of the Village Voice newspaper, and as usual one of their full page color ads in their events section catches my eye. And this time it is an ad for the Bridge Art Fair New York 08 with a ton of participating galleries and an opening night reception and homage to the Tunnel Nightclub hosted by Amanda Lepore, Michael Musto, Screamin’ Rachel Cain and DJ Scotto with special performance by Amanda Lepore. And I always like going to events and blah blogging about them these days because hey, it’s less writing sometimes. At that reminds me, did I make it to that Outsider Art Fair this past year to see some outsider art? And what is outsider art anyway, art that is on the outside, and on the outside of what? Well, I guess I didn’t go this past year to the Puck Building where it is usually held, as I don’t remember freezing in the middle of January when they are usually held, trying to get there. And I do remember I actually made it to one of them years ago, as they are usually held there every year. And there are usually a ton of great outsider artists with outsider and folk art galleries from around the world to go with them like the American Primitive Gallery, The Ames Gallery. Berenberg Gallery, Bodell Fahey Umbrella Arts, Galerie Bonheur, Galerie Bourbon-Lally, Russell Bowman Art Advisory, Henry Boxer Gallery, Grey Carter Objects of Art, Cavin-Morris Gallery, Creative Growth Art Center, Andrew Edlin Gallery, Fischer Kunsthandel und Edition, Gilley’s Gallery, Galerie der Künstler aus Gugging, Carl Hammer Gallery, Marion Harris, Galerie Atelier Herenplaats, Dean Jensen Gallery, Keny Galleries, Inc., Phyllis Kind Gallery, Yukiko Koide Presents, Maxwell Projects, The Pardee Collection, Ricco Maresca Gallery, Rising Fawn Folk Art, JP Ritsch-Fisch Galerie, Luise Ross Gallery, Jennifer Pinto Safian, Judy A Saslow Gallery, Galerie St. Etienne, Tanner Hill Gallery, Wasserwerk.Galerie Lange and Galerie Susanne Zander. And I wonder how that Outsider Art Fair went this past year, as it’s been a while since I have seen those shows.

The Whitney

Hey Bloggers, sometimes it seems as if life is falling down around me, especially when I turn on the world news and read the daily atrocities of the day, enough to make me think that these are the last days of something and that it is the beginning of the end of something else in my religious fanaticism thoughts. And yet I still find time to blah blog away. And maybe this is one of those 50 Signs You’re A Blogaholic in my blogaholicness, that even in the midst in chaos, I still find myself blah blogging away. And the Whitney Biennial 2008 is happening now, March 6 – June 1. I know because this weeks newspapers say so with all of their full page color advertisements. These Events

For some reason I do not see this blog every too often as usual these days, and yet here I go blah bloggng about events of the day again because I see them listed everywhere and also because hey, it’s less writing sometimes, especially when I find myself in bloggerland with blogger burnout approaching. And in my attempt to maintain my other blog, that other blog seems as if it wants to confuse me and give me twice as much work sometimes, and it also seems as if it is becoming a replica of this blog. So as I was blah blogging again, what’s up with that Frigid New York Festival 2008 February 27th – March 9th, that has been listed everywhere this past month. And now there are even more events, so many that the list could seem endless, especially in New York. Here is an excerpt from this weeks nonsense nyc that seems interesting, and their list is even more extensive:

The Fifth Annual NYC Grassroots Media Conference 2008, March 2nd, at Hunter College. Participate in one of the most exciting, local, grassroots media and activism events in New York City. In addition to a full day of workshops and panels, there will be a full day film festival, exhibition room featuring displays by local organizations, and tons of networking opportunities. free103point9 “Protest Radio” workshop will explain how free103point9 will use the open-source Asterisk software, and other streaming software, and how it can be used at other events and shared by many media outlets. Their schedule of workshops, speakers, panelists, and presenters include: FAIR, Center for Media Justice, Marymount Manhattan College, Coalition of Institutionalized Aged and Disabled (CIAD), Arts Engine, Inc., Hunter College, Tiltfactor Game Research Lab, Radical Reference, Reporters Without Borders, Learning Matters Inc., Listen Up!, Groundswell, Connecting.nyc Inc., Time’s Up!, Transportation Alternatives, Street Films, Street Memorial Project, Manhattan Neighborhood Network, Center for Digital Democracy, Name.Space and WiFi-NY, Common Cause, Sarah Lawrence College and the New York Solidarity Coalition for Katrina/Rita Survivors, movement in motion, The Media Justice Fund of the Funding Exchange, The North Star Fund, The Social Science Research Council, People’s Production House and ChicaLuna Productions, The Indypendent – Newspaper of NYC Independent Media Center,

This Event

And in my ventures and travails of going to and fro in this city, I picked up a copy of this weeks L Magazine from one of those corner newspaper boxes that are to be found on every other corner throughout the city with a ton of other free newspaper boxes next to them. And that L Magazine can sometimes be funny and hilarious as heck with its articles. And then there are those Amanda Park Taylor columns that have been very interesting and educational to read for a while now, as she seems as if she wants to save the environment and the world from itself. And in this weeks edition, she seeks to save the world from plastic. And as I turned the pages an ad appeared, the same ad that appears in this weeks Village Voice. It is an ad for The Brooklyn Next Festival, and I thought to post it because hey, it’s less writing sometimes. And I see the Drumadics are listed. The Drumadics are this really cool drum and horn band, or is it buckets and horn band that play underground in the New York City Subway as part of the Music Under New York Program. They should be a fun band to watch play. Have a great music, art and festival day.

Nublu Nite

Hey Bloggers, this is actually one of those postings that I was hoping could be a blog your way to riches, get rich internet quick post. But for some reason it isn’t. So instead I find myself blah blogging yesterdays posting that I posted on my other blog:
Okay, so somehow I wound up at that club Nublu last night in the East Village to see my friend Welf Dorr’s band “Funk Monk” play after a night of going to some art opening with all of the free wine and cheese you can eat. And Nublu is this really cool artist collective like club that Ilhan Ersahin started sometime from back in the day with artists who perform there like Brazilian Girls, a band for which the club seems to be mostly known for these days, Forro In The Dark, Kino, Kudu, Kenny Wollesen, Butch Morris and the Nublu Orchestra, Wax Poetic, Real Live Show, John Farris, Karina, Love Trio and a host of others. And they always have these really kool dj’s that play there also And that club that seems to be all the rage these days on the nightlife scene, seems like this hip scene thats never been seen before. And so my friends band gave me yet another good reason to drag the camera, whose main purpose seems to be to collect dust these days, out of the closet. And so I couldn’t wait to play with the camera again. This blog entry was supposed to have a photo of them playing posted in it also but that didn’t happen for some reason, because one thing I figured out in my experiment as a wannabe cameraman is to never attempt to use a camera after a night of free wine and cheese. And so the following is the YouTube video of my friends band on my YouTube page. This one seems to be sort of a cliffhanger video with an abrupt, frustrating ending to me. And the sound of that electronica synthesizer saxophone, and this evolution of the web 2.0 social media user driven content technology thing rocks. Have a great music day.

Nonsense NYC

It’s Nonsense NYC time again. I received yet another one of those weekly emails of these really cool events that happen around town from jstark. And this list always seems to have tons of loft parties, art openings, parades, dances and other burlesque type of events and more. And so I decided to repost of few of the events that are listed for this week because hey, it’s less writing sometimes.

A Week of Freegan Fashion You are cherry-cordially invited to the Second Freegan Fashion Show: Threadbare! Come see our trashy models walk the beige carpet runway in one-of-a-kind handmade costumes spun out of scavenged scrap material. Cheer on amateur Freegans as they strip off the outfits they’ve been wearing for the last two weeks and threadbare it all. This is a night to reject commercial control of our self-images and reclaim pride in the sexiness of creativity. All are invited to participate as models or fashion designers. Freegan Fashion Week starts this Tuesday, with a design workshop, and continues Wednesday and Thursday with more clothing making and preparation for Friday night’s party. Food is free. Dresses will be raffled. Following the show, stay and dance till the wee hours. El Dompe, 15 Thames Street, Brooklyn 10p; $7 donation supports Freegan Bike Workshop

Art And Politics

And today is the day Martin Luther King is honored. No one is free while others are oppressed. Peace on earth and goodwill to all mankind. And in a change of topic as I blah blog away on this holiday, I received one of those ABC No Rio COMA emails the other day. ABC No Rio seems to have been doing these COMA events for a while now and they have a really cool MySpace page. And I remember ABC No Rio for seemingly forever now as one of those radical, alternative squat community spaces in the neighborhood of the Lower East Side that has seemingly survived gentrification, genocide, the sellout and buyout of the squats and still exists to function with their cool and hip events over the years. ABC No Rio has been all art and politics for as long as I can remember. And so there is the COMA series emails again that I have been receiving, and that first show listed was actually yesterday, though the series seems to be ongoing. And I thought to repost this email because, hey, it’s less writing sometimes. And the subject of this email is:
