Love

Today is Valentines day according to that Gregorian Calendar and advertising here in America. And the color red and images of hearts in all shapes and sizes are everywhere today. And there are balloons and dinners everywhere and flowers bought and sold enough ready for burial. And I am not exactly sure what to say about Valentines Day except that it is another one of those holidays in America that seems as if it is supposed to be observed in some sort of way. And so I find myself reposting the following passage that I posted about love several months ago. And who or what is a Valentine anyway. Does Wikipedia have an answer for that? Happy Day of Valentines.

Someone sent an interesting email to my MySpace page inbox yesterday. And the email had the words “love love love, love is the greatest therapy”. Interesting. Now that makes me think about the word love. What is it abut that word. There has been ton of things said about it throughout the beginning of time and there are another ton of quotes, sayings, phrases, poems, stories, scriptures, verses and philosophies that have been said about it since the beginning of time. Love is what makes the world go round. Without love, life can be meaningless, maybe. And many a lyrics have been sung to many a love song, and the song titles about love are endless. And many books and romance novels have been written on the topic, and they are endless. And why is the word love, evol spelled backwards? Is there some secret hidden meaning there? Is there a definition for this word. What is its meaning and how can it be summed up into one sentence, if at all? What do the horoscopes have to say about it. And regarding relationships, that’s a whole another blog posting. Loves covers all things and above all things are love. And what about divine and brotherly love. Here is an interesting verse about love, or is it charity, in the bible. Peace and love.

Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing. Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity. 1 Corinthians 13.

The Good Samaritan

And now reading the latest news, there is flooding in England, half of America is on fire from wildfires, and an earthquake has happened in Japan, enough devastation to make me think the beginning of the end is near or at least global warming is in action. And is that “climate change” term a nice way of saying the world is about to end or transform in some sort of cataclysmic way? Is it now The Day After Tomorrow, the movie? Yesterday a friend taught me a new term to tell anyone who asks me how to blog; “RTFM”. Read the freaking manual. I thought that was kind of funny. And the story of the good Samaritan also crossed my mind yesterday. What’s that story about? Doesn’t it have something to do with if you see someone fallen and stranded by the side of road, do not pass him by, help him. And what is the moral of that story? Who is my brother and my sister? Better is a neighbour and a friend near than a brother afar. There is a parable to be found here somewhere. Compassion. Helping one another, helping the poor, the sick, the lame, the elderly, the home bound, and whoever else in need of help. If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink. For thou shall heap coals of fire upon his head, and the Lord (whoever the Lord may be..) shall reward thee. Proverbs, if you believe.
