Hey Bloggers, it’s finally zombie day today is here. Boo! Horror, horror, abracadabra, trick or treat, the ghosts have come to town and the dead have risen, maybe, the pagans are out, the witches are here, the devils are here, the jack o lanterns are here, curses could abound. Ghouls, crows, vultures, black cats, spiders, goblins, zombies, mummies, skeletons, and demons are around. It’s ritual celebration of something time. And that’s such a cool photo of that devil and his pentacle above that I thought to post it in this entry for Halloween, All Hallows Eve, All Hallows Day, Day of the Dead, All Saints Eve, Night of the Witches or whatever you may want to call this what could be the coolest day of the year when everyone could be free to be who they want to be, maybe. Crooked Disco celebrate the one-year anniversary tonight with Holla-Ween II. Featuring live performances by Baltimore’s Claire Hux and NYC’s own Koko Dozo, along with DJ sets from Philadelphia’s DJ Sega (Mad Decent), Seattle’s Tigerbeat, and resident DJ Morsy and DJ Kestar (collectively, The Crooked Disco DJs). There’s an open bar to kick things off from 10-11 plus free candy and a $100 costume contest.

In General: Crooked Disco is a monthly party at Public Assembly in Brooklyn built by DJ Morsy (Nanachill), DJ Kestar, and FreeNYC. The goal is to create a diverse, one-room celebration of the many sounds of dance music. On any one night, you’re likely to hear live and DJ sets of disco, electro, uptempo hip hop, breakbeat, Baltmore Club, and even good old New York House. Halloween Critical Mass

Critical Mass, an international event held in more than 325 cities on six continents, occurs on the last Friday of every month when bicyclists spontaneously come together to ride the ordinarily car-clogged streets of their cities. Critical Mass focuses on the rights of bicyclists and the rights of pedestrians on their own streets. It also brings attention to the deteriorating quality of life — starting with the toxic levels of air and noise pollution — that cars create for cities. Critical Mass’s aim is to make people take notice of cyclists as road users. Although some obstruction of normal traffic occurs, we are only seeking to raise the profile of cycling, and put cycling and transport issues on the agenda so that they will not be ignored.

This is usually a costume ride. Followed by a Halloween party ride at 8:40p on the Brooklyn side of the Williamsburg Bridge Bike Path.

Danbro Studios Warehouse at the Goldenrod Brewery is a gorgeous, mid-1800s vintage, raw warehouse space in the East Williamsburg Industrial Park. Shows happen in an ancient, dramatic vaulted room that used to house stores of grain for the building’s original incarnation: the Goldenrod Brewery, a once famous Brooklyn brewery that folded after the 1930s due to Prohibition. Just look for the landmark smokestack that reads “VD 1858” – the bands play next to the base of that stack. Danbro Studios is a multi-use creative facility offering studio space to artists and musicians. Rehearsal spaces for $3 per square foot.

A series of exploratory perambulations through the five boroughs. Or, less pretentiously: Get off your butt and come walk around the city with us.

Starting at the city’s quaintest bridge and concluding at its most enormous, this week’s walk will take us from the headwaters of the Gowanus Canal down to the Narrows, an 18-mile journey winding through Park Slope, Green-Wood Cemetery (whose deceased inhabitants well outnumber Staten Island’s living), Sunset Park, and Bay Ridge. We’ll also be ascending Brooklyn’s tallest peak, so make sure you dress appropriately for high altitudes.
